Sasi Wallpaper: How to do your own mural

If you want to practice and show your freedom through your creativity, painting a mural is one of the best ways to customize your home. A mural is a large piece of artwork placed on a wall. If you think you have what it takes to create a beautiful mural and want to start doing it now, you can follow the steps below:

Choose the location for your mural

Though the size of your mural depends on you, it is best displayed on large surfaces or walls. If you want to do your mural inside your home, choose a flat wall without a lot of obstructions. However, if you are renting your place, remember to ask the owner of the property before starting the project.

Clean the wall

Remove any impurities on the wall by cleaning it with soap and water. Keep in mind that any debris or other wall issues can show up in your work later on so repair any damaged areas too if needed.

Draw your design

Draw your design first on a piece of paper before starting on the wall. Some common murals are landscapes, characters and cities.

Transfer your design

Using a quality pencil, transfer your design on the paper to the wall. For faster and easier transferring process, you can use a projector to display the image on the wall. Then, you can sketch your design over the projected image.

Paint your mural

Once you have transferred the sketch to the wall, it is now time to paint your art. Use 100% acrylic paint to avoid fading and changes of colours over time. Oil-based enamel paints are one of the best paints to use when you want a richer and darker colour. When painting your mural, start with the background before moving on to larger shapes, then do the details last.

If you are going to paint in layers, make sure to wait at least 30 minutes before painting the next layer to avoid the paints from mixing with each other. However, the waiting time still depends on the paint you are using since there are some oil paints that require as long as one day to cure before you can paint over them.

Wait for the mural to dry then seal it with clear varnish

After finishing your painting, wait for at least one week for the paint to dry. Once dry, seal the mural with a water-based paint varnish to protect it from debris and damage.
